Welcome to the SEO Day Podcast Studio. I am Kim White, the official mailbag keeper around here, and I am joined by the lovely Denise Millet, who is the findability queen in our world. I'll just say that, Denise. It's great to be here with you to help entrepreneurs and business owners get their SEO questions answered.
Thank you for being here with me again this week, Kim. You, make this a lot of fun.
Well, thank you for that. I appreciate that sentiment. I jumped into the mailbag this week and I collected some questions, and again, I'm kind of going in a theme for the last couple of weeks of. These are the ones that don't want the shout outs.
They don't want to be named. So I just want to put that out there that if you send your questions in, don't worry. If you don't want your name called out, just let us know because we don't mind either way. But if you want a shout out, we're going to give it. So that's the exciting part. So this week's questions are submitted by listeners that preferred we didn't use their names.
So question number one, what's the first SEO thing I should think about before I create content?
I like this one.
Mm-hmm.
Okay. So before I started anything. About the content, I would have the one main question, your person who's sitting on the other side of the keyboard is going to sit and search and type in what is their question that they're looking for an answer to.
Right? That is your main purpose of that piece of content. So it needs to have one main idea, one main question, and then make the whole piece answer that question. And I'm guilty of trying to provide the kitchen sink 'cause I feel like I have to explain everything. I have to go backwards and say, well, I can't just reference this until I explain what it is.
And I tend, that's my brain and that's what I do. And I think that's a lot of people's brains is they have to provide the whole research paper. And I really think if you can keep your content to one main idea, no matter what it is you're going to do well,
I love this and I love that you're slowing our role.
Well, I have somebody remind me on the daily
question number two, how can I quickly pick a keyword without using any fancy SEO tools?
Use the search engine itself and type in your main idea that you've chosen or even the question that you think they're asking, and see what comes up. As you type. The auto complete is going to give you optional words to add onto it, or auto complete is meant to make it easier for you to type, so you don't have to type all the words.
So it's guessing what you're going to add onto it, and that's. Pulled from what other people have typed before, so it's very helpful. So look at that while it's happening. And then there's another section called people also ask or other questions, look at those and see if there are other wordings of the idea you have that might be more realistic for what people might type in.
Or that sound like the people you want to deal with that are, your age or in your place in life or things like that. So do that kind of analysis and I think you will be able to pull out one simple phrase that sounds like what you're thinking of.
Such a great answer.
Thank you. Two
Tuesdays, y'all don't forget.
SEO days, Tuesdays. So you get all this gold that Denise is dropping. So our third question is, where do I need to put my keyword so search engines actually notice my content?
So that's, this is an interesting question because in today's search engines. You want to put your keywords towards the front of a title or a description.
Okay. But not so they'll notice you so that when your people see your content, they'll connect that you're your answering what they ask for. So the first 60 or 70 characters of a title is what shows in search engines and as the link. So you want to make sure that you have the keywords. In that beginning portion, often they show a little bit of the description right underneath the link.
If you use a synonym or another way to phrase the keywords in that, that just reinforces that you're answering their question. So search engines, yes, are going to recognize your keywords, but it's not really just because they're upfront, although that sometimes does indicate that they're important, but it indicates they're important because you have it in the title, in the description.
Reword it in headline and in your content, so it gets that, that's your theme. It's not specifically anymore like placement because there's so much further advance now, so,
right. Well, let's head over to a word from our sponsor today.
This episode is brought to you by the findability Queen Denise Millet. Visit her YouTube channel youtube.com/at findability queen for her collection of short videos, answering questions about findability and SEO for entrepreneurs every day.
We are back talking about SEO ideas.
You need to remember before you publish your content. You can be a content machine, but you gotta listen to Denise to get it in front of people. I'm just going to say, let's move on to our next question. Question number four, what does a good SEO friendly title look like for my post podcast or video?
I like this one.
This is a interesting strategy. So you want to take your keyword and combine it with a benefit for your audience that to make it resonate with them that something they need. So, for example, you know, um, SEO Basics for new Coaches Steps before you launch something like that, it, it's. It's helping a new coach find something to make their launch successful.
So try to get to the essence of why they're asking the question they're asking, and answer it with that in mind and keep it plain. Don't make it hugely long. You know, what does it, Kim? You always say Clear over, clever always wins, right? That's
right. That's right. Well, question number five or final question to the day.
I'm so sad. So question number five, is there a simple checklist I can run through before I hit publish every time when I'm publishing content?
Yes, I think so. I think if you have one clear question, you're answering one main key word, even if you phrase it in different. Synonyms. You put that keyword in the title somehow.
You put it in your first sentences, in your description, and you have one heading that contains a version of it. I think you're 16 steps ahead of time and then you know, you can also think about, you want to lead them to other content about it too, so make sure that you have a link to something in there, and I think that will help you too.
That's brilliant. Brilliant. Thank, thank you for answering these questions, Denise. We're closing the mailbag for today and we'll jump back in next week. You did a great job, as always, of making it clear what SEO is and how we can use it in our businesses. So thank you.
Thank you for being here and making it fun as always.
And you know, Kim. I truly believe that entrepreneurs can use SEO to enrich their bottom lines. Search engines are an untapped resource for so many business owners because they create all this content and they're not really making sure it's getting to search engines. So I'd like to help each and every one of them experience the more listeners, more viewers, more readers, whatever it is they're looking for from SEO.
So that they can elevate their businesses and their results. And so, you know, but I get it though. It's not one of those things that you want to sit down today, and today I'm going to tackle SEO because it, could be scary. So I created this quiz called the DIY SEO quiz, and it's seven quick checks to see if you're ready to do your own SEO and.
If everyone will just take a few minutes. This quiz could show them more clearly, where they are, whether they can tackle it or not, or what gaps they might need to fill as they're going along doing this, because I believe everybody can do it. They can do these basic things and get such great benefits.
So if everybody would take a few minutes and go to the link in the show notes and take the quiz, I think that they'd benefit a whole lot.
Anytime you can get a sign off from the findability queen that you're ready for something. I think that's gold too, Denise.
Thanks, Kim. We'll see you next time. I.
