Welcome to the [00:01:00] SEO Day Podcast Studio. I am the official mailbag keeper around here, Kim White, and I am joined by the beautiful and brilliant Denise Millet, who is the official findability queen.
So thank you, Denise, for helping all of us entrepreneurs and business owners get over the intimidation of SEO. Thank you for doing this with me every week, Kim, because it makes it so much more fun. And I know that people love hearing your voice as well on some of these things that you've spent lots of years doing too, so I love that.
Thank you. Well, I want to give a little clarity today about the mail bag. So the mailbag is actually a collection, I'm going to call it, of emails, phone calls. Questions asked in like our business community, it is it. They come from all over. So [00:02:00] even though we're calling it a mailbag, we want you to know any way you can get a question to Denise.
We are trying to answer them, and this set of questions comes from our awesome business community. They asked out loud. I wrote them down and here we are. So there you go. They were sent from several community members, but they all focus on something that I think is wonderful and that's SEO and business.
So question number one, Denise, where do I even start with doing SEO? This is the first step is understanding and finding what your keywords are and what keywords are, as we've talked about before, are the words that your people are going to type or speak into a search engine to look for something and to look something for something or someone [00:03:00] like you.
So you want to connect with them. And that's how you do it in search engines. So you have to have these. The words of your people. And that means you need to understand your Audi, your people, who you're trying to talk to, and actually put yourself in their shoes and, and what is their language going to be? What are they, how do they speak about these things?
Because that's the language they're going to use. So those, that's the first piece that you have to do. Well, I'm going to inter interject. There are several podcast episodes that focus on keywords. Go back and listen because they're very good. You broke it down very simply. So if you need a little bit more information, do that and get Denise's guide.
She has it. You know, simple for you to pick it, pick those keywords. So commercial done. Question number two, what is an SEO audit? [00:04:00] An SEO audit is a service that goes and looks at all of your website pages and looks at. Some of your platforms that you're on, your profiles or YouTube or whatever, to see whether you are putting things in the right places so that people know what your content is about and sees if there's any gaps and things that you can do to improve, to make things more understandable by search engines so that you get more content in there and you can make better connections.
Well, I'm going to tell on you. You don't want me to, but I'm going to. Anyway. Denise does an amazing findability review. Yes. That we, our business bought one of those. And let me tell you, it's a game changer. We set some pretty high Records on our website after going through that review. [00:05:00] So I'm going to put that little commercial in there.
And I'm sorry Denise, don't fire me. No. So a findability review is not as comprehensive as an SEO audit is. An audit is very detailed and covers a lot more pages, finds errors. If there's errors in your pages. Looks at a lot of the backend stuff. Findability review is taking. You as your business, you as your name, you as your service, and going out and looking across all the platforms and seeing where you are today and giving you a score.
Areas where you can improve. So, are your social media showing up? Is your YouTube channel showing up? Is your podcast there, you know, that kind of thing. So it's a higher level view and it's much quicker to do and it comes back and gives you some recommendations on some things you can do. Pretty quickly and easily to make things even better.
Well, I'm just going to throw [00:06:00] one last little commercial part in here. Denise is available for both. You can hire, Denise for a findability review or an SEO audit. I just wanted to throw that in there. Don't fire me. Don't fire me. Question number three. Do I need a monthly SEO service? So this is going to be a little spicy.
So what I believe about SEO is that everybody needs to begin. By getting their content ready to be into, get into the search engine first so that it can be found. And so that means you setting up all the right places with the keywords and making sure your content's got the right themes and it's readable and all those things.
So that's what I consider the beginning step of SEO. A lot of services. Aren't doing that as much. They're looking at the keywords and they're trying to see how many hits you get on a [00:07:00] keyword and how many things you do, and well, we could create this ad, or we could create this blog post, or we could do this to try to make the search engines behave differently.
And that's fine if you're a huge corporation. You have lots of people to do that. So as a single business, as a, entrepreneur or a small business owner and small businesses are pretty large, right? Kim, you don't million if unless you have a team, you really don't need that. You can hire somebody, but I, I would challenge you to make sure they're doing.
The right things to get your content into the search engine properly so that you can connect with people and you keep building on that until you have a whole set of things that people can look for. 'cause that's really the first part. Thank you for keeping us all from being taken advantage of, is what I'm going to say.
Yes. Let's head over to a word from our sponsor today. This episode [00:08:00] is brought to you by the findability Queen Denise Millet. Visit her YouTube channel youtube.com/@findabilityqueen for her collection of short videos, answering questions about findability and SEO for entrepreneurs every day. We are back talking about SEO for business to businesses today.
Me and my words today. Question number four. Can I do SEO on my own? Absolutely. You can.
However. There's a lot of mixed messages out there. There are a lot of different ways that people approach SEO, and so I would caution and try to find the things that are tailored to, Where you are with SEO. So if you're just starting out, you need to learn about keywords, you need to learn about where the keywords go.
You [00:09:00] need to learn about do I build a blog or how do I build a podcast? Like those kind of things. Look for that before you go looking for the metrics or the analytics anywhere that show you what the best keywords are, because I think you really need to find them based on who you're trying to talk to.
So. You can do it on your own. yeah, there are lots of ways that you can, can learn the steps that you need. Okay, I am going to be another commercial y'all. First thing you need to do is get Denise's guide and get keywords going, and then go to her workshops about keywords and how to put them in action.
And I'm going to give a quick testimonial on one of our. Friends who went from zero to almost 4 million in three years because of what Denise has taught him. So I'm going to put that out there. Commercial done. And we'll go to question five, but I think it's really important everybody understands Denise. [00:10:00] You are capable of helping them do their selves.
So thank you, Kim. and I'll say that one person put in a lot of effort to follow those steps and he did it all on his own. He took the ball and ran with it. So that really made all the difference too. because consistency is a big part of it. Question number five, how do I know my SEO is working? Okay, this is me and my opinion is there are ways to, on Google, Google Search Console is the first tool they created to go and have you see results, like who's visiting your website, how many impressions, how many times your website shows up and results, how many visits you get to your website.
And then there's varying differences in the tool, like whether you have errors on your page or whatever. That is the foundation. So I would go there first and look at whether your visitors [00:11:00] are increasing, because that means people are coming from search engines more. And they're finding you and they're getting to you.
So that would be the primary thing to look at for me. Thank you so much, Denise, for answering all of these SEO and business questions today. You are doing such a phenomenal job for all of us who are learning. we're closing the mailbag for today and we'll jump back in next week. You did a great job of making SEO and business easier to understand how we can do it ourselves.
