Hey Kim. Welcome to the SEO Day podcast. I am the official mailbag keeper. Kim White, along with the findability queen herself, is in the house or in the studio, I should say.
Denise Millet. Denise, thank you for. Taking all the questions and making sense of them. Let's just say that from across the world that entrepreneurs and business owners have about these three little letters that are so intimidating, SEO.
Well, thanks for being here with me today, Kim. I keep saying it every weekend.
I just want you to know it's so much more fun to do this with you managing that mailbag than, than me. So thank you so much for being here.
I think I should have some sort of an award for the funnest mailbag keeper ever. That's what I'm gonna say. Well, our first letter for this week's podcast episode is from Yvonne Marchese.
She is the creator of the Late Bloomer Living Podcast and the President of the Age Agitators Club. She has asked a great question, and that is what is valued more in search, a blog or a podcast.
Yvonne, excellent question, and I bet you, because you're such a big, big shot podcaster, you're wondering whether you need a blog probably.
But what I'm gonna say is probably not to answer your question really the way you think. 'cause I don't think it's black and white. I think it's what's the opportunity for you to connect with your people And podcasting is a super way to connect with your people. And search engines value podcasts. People go to search engines to find podcasts.
It's, they go hand in hand. And so it's a wonderful way to speak to your audience of listeners. But there are other ways that people consume content. So a blog is an opportunity to speak about similar topics to your podcast or unique ones or more detailed topics. So you can take a blog and use it as another way to reach another set of people that maybe aren't listeners.
So I don't think it's one or the other. I think it's what fits your business. And they both have merit. Search because they're both really important content in search engines.
Thank you, Denise. So Yvonne has another question, and that is, should I include podcast? I've been a guest on, on my website?
Yes. Yay.
And here, let's talk about why. Okay. part of. Search engines, showing your content to people is they're evaluating you and you as an expert or as an authority, or whether you're trustworthy. So if you think about the things they can find out about you is they could see where you've been connected to other people on the internet, and those connections, if they're good people, reflect well on you.
So by you having those guest appearances, let's call them or whatever you, if you're on a summit or a podcast or an event, by you linking back to those episodes or putting them there and connecting that on your website, you're helping them find that you have these extra things to boost your authority.
And your expertise and to make you a safer choice to present information to their, to search engine customers. So I think it helps people to come and visit you because they feel like, oh, okay, she's been here and she talks here and she's been here, or he, and, but for search engines, you're just giving it to them on, you're serving it up to them like, Hey, trust me because I've done this, and this.
And they don't have to work hard to find that out.
I love that answer. Thank you. So Yvonne has been podcasting for five years, so she has a lot of experience with podcasting and she has been asked to speak at an event. How can she get info about the event into search engines? She's asking,
I like this one too.
Oh, Yvonne Gold Stars this week. Okay, you control, your website is the one place that you can control what a search engine sees. So if you, this is my suggestion. If you had an event coming up, yes, you could have social media posts and other things going out about it, or YouTube clips or reels or whatever.
But if you were to put that on a page on your website. Then a search engine is gonna read that page and put that information into its catalog. If it's, if you describe it as being something that their people wanna know about. So if you have enough time, a couple weeks or whatever, that you could put a page on your website with the pertinent information about the event, who's there, you're there.
You know, whatever you can put out there that's. Describes it well then your priming search to help you bring people to you and you control that on your website. So that's my answer.

We are back to the mailbag and I have pulled out another letter for today, Denise, and we are talking to Donna, or this question is coming from Donna Bender, the founder of the Donna Bender Company. She's a branded products. Specialist who helps businesses use branded products strategically and gifting to build relationships that impact their bottom line.
And she has a great question. It's how do I know what topics will help me in search engines?
This is another, Interesting question because there's a lot of possibilities, but what I'm going to suggest is that you take things that are relevant to your industry that people might be talking about on in journals or in articles or in other blog posts you see.
And search for them yourself and see what kind of other topics are coming up. And other people also ask questions and things like that. Try to see what the current conversation is. And if you could do that better than what's out there now, if you could provide something that's more in depth than what you're seeing come up about that subject, that's a good indicator.
If you could see a subtopic that relates to something that people might be talking about that you can present more about, like I know Donna talks about branded products and sustainability and a lot of the materials they use in them today, so that we're not in the throwaway culture. All that stuff is so unique.
That's unique to her that she can add on to the current conversation about products by adding specifics about sustainability in there, and that will be a great conversation. So it's a bit of a trial and error. It's a bit of research to do, but it is all focused around what's. Currently the topics in the industry that you already know are being talked about.
And so that's really the only way you know, is to go in there and see what's showing today and see if you can add to that or do it in a better way. Make it. More helpful, helpful, and more useful?
Very good answer, Denise. Well, Donna has one more question, and I think this is a great question too.
She has asked, is social media included in search engines?
Wow, this is a good one because, you know, six months to a year ago, I would say your social media profiles are the only thing that'll show up in search engines. But now with the increased speed storage capacity that's available out there now for search engines, they have more and more images out there, and more and more of your reels are gonna show up there.
It's not consistent. It's consistently everything. But I'll tell you now that if I go in and look, I see a lot of the images from my social media there, and I'll see a lot of the multimedia that I do is showing up there. So what you might do is go look for yourself and see what's showing up in images, showing up as reels and videos and things like that, and get a sense for what they're valuing.
That you're producing and try to pre present more of that. And it's always gonna be changing. So you just have to keep looking is really the only thing I can advise people. 'cause I used to be very definitive. They only do this and it's changed. So I think yes, it's there and yes, you have to keep on top of what they're doing so that you can keep tailoring it to what's out there.
