Denise, thank you for giving business owners a place to get their questions answered about findability and SEO and a space to do it every week. Thank you, Kim. How are you doing today? I am so excited to be here. I know today's topic is wrapped around more podcasting. Denise, that's one of your favorite topics.
It is one of my favorites. Well, thank you for doing this with me today. You are so welcome. Well, I happen to dig into the mailbag and find a letter that had multiple questions. Again, I like these multiples and it comes from Cat Corchado, who is a podcaster. She is a movement specialist [00:02:00] and she is also the host of the Sisters in Service Podcast.
So Cat has a lot to offer this world for. Military and movement, I'm gonna say. But she has some questions. She wants to do a good job and get her message out there. So one of Cat's questions is, why does it matter if my podcast episodes are in search engines? Good question. It matters that they're in search engines because you craft these.
Individual show episodes that are about a topic and your searchers want to know about that topic. And the only way they're gonna be able to connect with your topic is if you get it into search in its own entry, in its own line on the on the results, so that they know what the episode's about. And then the other thing is people [00:03:00] find new podcasts via.
Searches. So one of the stats I got from some research for, for WP Beginner was 49% of the survey people find new podcasts via, via search. So, I mean. You can't, you can't argue with that number. That's amazing, Denise. Well, this kind of ties into Cat's next question, which is how can she increase her podcast listeners?
Okay, so there's a couple of things you can do and I, and I think what I'm finding as I'm learning is that there's so many different networks out there to distribute your podcast on, and they all have their own audience of listeners. So you may host or create your podcast on a platform. In my case, this [00:04:00] podcast is hosted on Kajabi.
But I also have submitted it to Apple and to, Spotify and to iHeart and to other networks that also distribute it out. It's like a big. Web, believe it or not, of different interconnected distribution channels that share your feed from your podcast. So that's the first thing I would do is I would like try to find all the networks that matter to you and make sure you're there.
And then the other thing to get more listeners would be your social media and getting your podcasts. Into search engines, your episodes so that people can connect with your episodes and then know more about your podcast. Denise, I wanna ask a quick question because I know you were talking about this and I feel like we have conversations that don't always make it to the podcast.
Yeah. Search is one way, and you [00:05:00] talked about social media being another way for people to find podcasts. Right, right. I, I, that was part of the, that study too for WP Beginner was that 49% find their podcast via search. 48% said social media. Which I found interesting. I know, and I'm sure you know, that some of the search features on the pod platforms are not good.
Are not great. They need some work, and I think that frustration has led people to look in other places to find new things. So I just didn't want, thank you for that. I didn't want our listeners to not have all the information they need to stay in the know with SEO, right? Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh, yes. So Cat's next question is a brilliant one as well, and that's.
If I rerelease epic to common [00:06:00] among of podcasters when they take a break mm-hmm. Do change the show notes and name.
So this is a little spicy, my opinion. When you're re-releasing something, you're not just gonna put the exact same thing there. That to the internet is duplicate content and it's the same thing. Possibly two different places. And that's a no-no. Like that's just not done. So you have to make some modifications to that piece of work, whether it's audio around it that says, Hey, I'm on hiatus.
This is one of my favorite episodes. You know, whatever. And you should change your show notes to reflect that this is a replay. You want to also, just think about. People wanna know that you have a life. They wanna know that you're taking a break, but they also don't wanna feel like they're being tricked by [00:07:00] something that was already done.
You know? So you, you have to kind, I believe, yes, you must update your stuff and create a new title for it. You know, my favorite things, whatever you want it to be, and put it out there because I think it's going to stand alone on itself, and it can't be the same as the previous. Perfect. And Denise, I love this stat that we get from her that she's getting over 10,000 [00:08:00] downloads, which is a lot, and she asked if I have a repeat guest for my podcast, what's the best way to connect the two for her listeners? That is an awesome question. So personally, and again, some of this is opinion. My ideas, my ideas.
So I would actually say it during the podcast as the introduction. We have this person back, they were here back when, right? Then I would also have it in, that's part of the transcript, so it's part of the transcript when you've said it out loud. I would also say it in the show notes. I wouldn't necessarily create a link, a hyperlink to another episode because I don't think that's allowed in some places that you link to other episodes.
So. I would put reference to it in the show [00:09:00] notes. And then if you follow my idea that you wanna get all these into search engines, so you're creating a page for each episode, that's where you could put a link to the actual other episode on that webpage. 'cause you control that, that's your site. So you could do that there.
So that would be some ideas on how to do that. Great answers, as always. Well, Cat's final question for this, this episode is, do I put the episode number in my titles for each episode?
Let's talk about search a little bit. We've talked about when you, when you get something into a search engine, it only is going to display back to the searching user the first 60 or 70 characters of the title. So to put a number in there and possibly the word [00:10:00] episode number 16 in there is kind of a waste because the people searching aren't looking for an episode number.
Right. So for me that's kind of a waste of where to put that. Now, could you put it at the end of the title? Absolutely. Could you just put the number? Absolutely. Is it needed? You don't have to, but I think you wanna maximize connecting with your people in those first 60 characters of your title. In, in a real conversation way as opposed to using that space for an episode number.
So I would put it in there, but I would put it at the end and not the beginning. Thank you so much for answering all these questions. Denise.
