Welcome to the SEO Day podcast studio.
I am Kim White.
I am the official mailbag keeper, and I am here with the amazing findability queen herself,
Denise Millet.
Denise, thank you for answering questions from across the globe that entrepreneurs and
business owners have about the tough topic SEO.
Thank you, Kim.
I'm so glad you're here with me today.
It's really, really awesome.
I love being with you, Denise, and I love digging in this mailbag.
Let me get in here and find a good one for today.
Here's one from Cat Cortado, the founder of Small Space Pilates.
Cat believes that everyone has a right to feel good in their bodies and created a virtual
community for women where fitness meets them where they are in a comfortable space at
home.
Her first question, she has a couple, Denise.
Her first question today is Does a blog make a difference for search engines?
It can absolutely make a difference, a difference for you to show up in search engines.
It reinforces your authority and your expertise in the things you do and tells the search engine
that you know more than just what's on your website, and that you have other ideas that you're
sharing that support you. There then are more entries for you in the search engine for them to
draw on and that demonstrates that you have expertise.
I love it.
Well, I see the Cat is a blogger who is spreading health and wellness across the across the globe
as well.
And she has another question.
Are keywords different for blogs?
They can be, Kim. They can be.
I tell people to have a catalog of things that they want to talk about, but often blogs are the
opportunity to talk about the things that aren't on your website.
To get a little bit more deeply into a topic or be more specific about things.
It's a great opportunity to broaden what your keywords are from what you've used before.
Make it very, very specific to ideas because that's sometimes what people search for is for an
idea and information that they don't have.
So they're looking for a singular thing they may not want the whole topic.
They want just one thing that they want an answer to.
Got it.
Well, I have pulled another letter from the mail bag today, and it is from Donna Bender.
The founder of the Donna Bender Company.
She is a branded product specialist helping businesses use branded products and gifts to build
relationships that impact their bottom line.
She asked a few questions here, Findability Queen, she asked, where do I look for keywords?
First I often tell people to go to the search engine itself to look for keywords by typing in what
you think your person's going to use as a word and then see some of the endings that come up.
And there are also different sections on the search engine, whether it's people also ask other
questions.
There are also videos that come up and also audio that comes up and images.
So, there's lots of ways you can look through a search engine results for a core word and find
out different ways to look at it or different ways to approach it.
I also think it's important to go to a website or on LinkedIn, a group that you belong to that's in
your field, And look at the conversations people are having.
What questions are they asking there? What is it that they're looking for? And that's going to
be a very good indicator of where you should head in a direction to look for keywords.
I think groups, industry websites, uh, publications, they're all great places to know what the
current conversation is.
I'm gonna give a little secret, don't listen for a second, Denise.
Y'all stay till the end because Denise has a gift for you about keywords.
I'm just gonna put that in there.
So you can listen again, Denise, but let's head over to a word from our sponsor today.
Welcome back.
And Donna has another question on this same letter, Denise.
She asks, she hears linking is important for blogs, and she would like to know why?
Okay.
Linking is good for two in two ways.
It tells the search engine reader programs the next place to go.
Or a place to go to get more information about something that you wanted to include.
You're telling them that this is important to this subject or this is another thing I've written
about this subject.
They will make the connection and it will support you overall as they are reading it.
The other thing that links are good for is for your people who are reading your stuff.
It tells them the next place to go.
It tells them where they can get more information.
It might define, tell a definition of something that they may not know yet if it's complex ideas.
It's really intended to help your people get the most out of your content
Well, I think Donna's last question for the day, Denise, is a good one that goes with the others,
and that is, Does my blog title matter to a search engine?
Absolutely.
It really does.
Your title actually becomes the thing that shows up in search engines that someone clicks on.
So it's the thing that they're going to see, the first number of 60 characters of it are gonna be
the link.
So that's going to be what they're seeing in the search results page.
So you want to make sure it tells them the main idea what your post is about.
And the search engines are looking for that and giving it very high value in how they they value
your content is what is that topic in your title and I'm gonna look for things that match that.
Or or connect with that.
So it's very important.
Thank you for answering these questions today, Denise, and we're gonna close the mailbag for
now.
And we will jump back in next week.
I'm going to suggest all of you save the date for Tuesdays, make it your SEO day so that you can
implement the amazing things Denise is sharing.
You did a great job, Denise, of making it clear what SEO is and how we can use it for our
businesses.
Thank you for being here with me, Kim.
I really appreciate it, and thank you to Cat and Donna for their questions.
