DIY SEO for Entrepreneurs-Turn Your Existing Content Into More Traffic, Customers, and Sales

Apr 17, 2026

If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re already doing the hard part.  You’re planning launches, recording podcast episodes, going live on social, writing emails, posting to Instagram or LinkedIn, maybe even scripting YouTube videos.

You’re creating a lot of content.

But if you’re honest, the results don’t always match the effort:

  • Your traffic feels random
  • The “right” people aren’t consistently finding you
  • Sales spike occasionally, but there’s no steady flow

It’s not that your content is bad. It’s that your content isn’t findable.

That’s where DIY SEO comes in.

You Don’t Need More Content. You Need More Findability.

Most entrepreneurs assume the answer is “create more.”  More posts. More episodes. More reels.

But if your existing content isn’t showing up when your ideal customers are searching for answers, creating more of the same doesn’t fix the problem. It just adds to the pile.

SEO (search engine optimization) is simply the practice of:

  • Understanding what your people are searching for
  • Using their words in the right places in your content and on your site
  • Structuring your pages so search engines can understand and trust them

The good news:
You don’t need to become a full-time “SEO person” to benefit from this. You can do it yourself, in simple, practical ways, using the content you already have.

You’re Already Doing 70% of the Work

If you’re publishing content regularly, you’ve already done most of the work that SEO requires:

  • You know your audience and their questions
  • You’re already teaching, explaining, and educating
  • You have blogs, podcasts, or videos that can be optimized

DIY SEO is about adding the final 30%:

  • Choosing intentional keywords instead of guessing
  • Organizing your ideas so each piece of content answers one clear question
  • Updating titles, headings, and descriptions so search engines can clearly see what your content is about

It's the same content you are creating, just tweaked for much better results.

Simple DIY SEO Shifts You Can Make Today

You don’t need advanced tools or a technical background. Here are a few examples of DIY SEO strategies that any entrepreneur can use:

Turn topics into search phrases

Instead of publishing content about “marketing tips for coaches,” ask: What exact question would a coach type into Google?   Maybe something like this would be their question“How do I get more coaching clients online?”  Work that questions into your content piece so you are matching what they search for, not what you think they need to know.

Make each piece of content answer ONE main question

Search engines (and humans) love simple ideas and explanations.  If your podcast episode or blog post wanders through five different topics change it up and make ONE primary theme. For example I could talk about websites and SEO all day and thing it was just one idea, dumping facts left and right, thinking that is how everyone thinks.  But what I really know is that websites and SEO are broad ideas full of many subjects and to keep from oversharing and overwhelming it is much better to focus on one thing at a time like real people do.

DIY SEO = More Connections, Customers, and Sales

When you apply simple DIY SEO strategies to the content you’re already creating, you start to see:

  • More of the right people landing on your site
  • Visitors who feel like “you’re in their head” because you’re using their words
  • A clearer path from “I just found you on Google” to “I’m ready to work with you”

Nothing about this requires you to become a tech expert.
It just requires a small shift in how you plan, title, and organize the content you’re already making.
