Blog or Podcast - Which One Is Better For Your Business?

As business owners we have to make tons of decisions and one of the biggest is how we spend our time.  Time is the one resource we can't buy.   When we look to expand our connections with our potential clients online we often look to ways to speak to them through different types of content.  Blogs and podcasts are two of the best ways to share your ideas with your audience.  So, how do you choose which one to invest your time into creating?

There is no definitive one is better than the other, the key is to weigh the cost to you with the value you will bring to your specific group of consumers.  Let's take a look at the cost of each in general terms.  A blog can take more time to produce due to the length of the writing process steps: select topic, outline, draft, edit, select media, publish.  A podcast on the other hand requires you to select a topic, outline the conversation points, record, edit, publish.  From this perspective it may seem that a podcast is the better choice, however it is not that simple.

With either content type it is important to weigh the cost to you the content creator, but also what is appropriate for your audience.  Does your ideal customer listen to podcasts? or do they prefer to read when they have time?

In an article for Riverside's blog titled Podcast Statistics and Trends for 2025 (& Why They Matter) they reported:   "Podcast listeners in the U.S. represent 59% of the population aged 12-34, 55% of the population between 35 and 54, and 27% of the population over 55."

If your ideal customer or client is not inclined to listen to podcasts, then a blog may be the content for you to create.

In an article published by Master Blogging titled How Many People Read Blogs? (2025 Readership Stats) they reported: "While younger people still read blog posts, they lean more toward easy-to-consume social media content. More than 37% of blog readers are 41 to 60 years old, 30% of blog readers are 31 to 40 years old, 17% of blog readers are 25 to 30 years old, 10.3% of blog readers are 19 to 24 years old."

In the end, your choice is a balance between the time your have available to create content and the way of your potential customers prefer to consume content.
